HomeOur Rides
We offer an extensive selection of ride events throughout the outdoor cycling season, and they fall into two categories:

PROGRAM RIDES

These recurring rides are the foundation of our ride events and give members something to look forward to each week. Members sign up for each ride event in our Calendar. We don't send email reminders to members for these program rides. However, if you register for one, we'll email you if we have to cancel due to inclement weather.

POP-UP RIDES

These ad-hoc rides can appear at any time throughout the season, depending on Ride Leaders' interests. They do not recur like our program rides. Members are notified by email when they have been added to our Calendar. Some of the pop-up rides you will likely see this season include our annual "Pumpkin Ride" to Battersea, our "Model Train Ride" to Battersea, "View from a Bridge" in Yarker, and various rides across Wolfe Island.

RIDE CATEGORIES

A detailed description of each ride is provided in the Calendar event description, including Ride Leader, ride category, and a link to the route map. To ensure that everyone enjoys their ride, please pick the appropriate ride category for your ability. When in doubt, contact the Ride Leader with any concerns.

Gravel and trail rides typically go at a slower pace than road rides, and so are categorized by reference to the equivalent effort level of road rides, rather than average speed.

2024 PROGRAM RIDES

SUNDAY

SADDLE UP SUNDAYS (A, B, C, D)

On Sunday mornings the Club heads out into the fabulous local countryside with rides of varying pace and distance. Most rides finish up at a great local restaurant or café for refueling and socializing.

MONDAY

WOMEN'S RIDES (B, C)

Start the week with this fun and supportive women-only evening ride. The rides have both a C and B Ride Category. There will be a ride leader to cover each category. Hope you’ll join us!

TUESDAY

GRAVEL FRONTENAC (A, B, C)

We’re not just about the riding; we’re equally about the scenery! The goal of these morning rides is to cycle the region's most beautiful countryside. Both short and long routes are offered where the geography allows. These routes are mostly gravel, especially in the rugged terrain of the Frontenac Arch.

SLOW AS MOLASSES RIDES (D, L)

These Tuesday morning Ride Category D and/or L rides depart from various points on the K&P or Cataraqui Trail. Ideal for riders of all ages and abilities. As the routes don't require riding on the road, this weekly ride is great for those new to cycling, or those who haven't ridden for a while.

WEDNESDAY

WESTEND WEEKDAY WRIDERS (B)

This weekday morning ride, typically on Wednesday, offers a satisfyingly brisk workout with 2 pace group options along a 52km loop. Sometimes, on the longer straight sections of this route, opportunity presents itself to create the synergy similar to that of riding in a Peloton. By combining the leg power of all riders while holding the group together we draft smoothly and carefully at speed. This is when the magic happens!

MID-WEEK STRETCH (C)

A KVC classic! These evening rides are the perfect way to end the day and bridge the gap between weekend rides. They are Ride Category C, with some flexibility depending on how the group feels at the time. All rides depart from the Cataraqui Arena, 1030 Sunnyside Rd, Kingston.

THURSDAY

THUMPING THURSDAYS (A+, A, B)

A series of training rides set at quick Ride Category A and B paces! These weekly evening rides are typically 50-60km long. The season starts at the lower end of each ride category range and increases as the season progresses, giving riders an opportunity to improve their fitness and cycling abilities.

GET OUT AND RIDE (C)

These Ride Category C evening rides are approximately 40km long on country roads north and west of Kingston. They share a start location with the Thumping Thursdays rides.

FRIDAY

FRIYAY (C)

Join us on Friday mornings for a relaxed C pace ride. These rides are generally between 45-55km and circulate through half a dozen or so start locations, all within 20 minutes of downtown Kingston.

SATURDAY

WESTEND WEEKEND WRIDERS (B)

This Saturday morning social ride also offers 2 pace group options along a 70km loop that includes Greater Napanee and a coffee stop in the Village of Bath.

OFF-SEASON

We also have a Discord channel which we may use to chat among ourselves during the rides (for more details, see the “About” section of our Zwift club page in the Companion app).
